Teofimo Lopez has set his sights on a new target after the collapse of his clash with Devin Haney.

Last week, the two fighters were said to be on the verge of agreeing a deal for a 145lb catchweight bout in Saudi Arabia in August, but Haney then revealed that Lopez had pulled out of the clash.

Haney took to social media to criticise his rival for his withdrawal, while Lopez has since made his reasons known for not going ahead with the fight, claiming that Haney needs to win in impressive style in order to secure a bout against him.

With both men now searching for different opponents, Lopez has named who he wants to take on, revealing that he is looking at the winner of the upcoming rematch between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach.

“August 16, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Lamont Roach, the repeat. I look forward to beating them afterwards.”

Davis will meet Roach in a rematch in Las Vegas this summer, after the two men originally met in New York back in March. That ended in a contentious majority decision draw, with Davis successfully retaining his WBA lightweight title despite the controversy.

A fight between Lopez and Davis would arguably be one of the biggest that could be made in the sport, but Roach will look to spoil that plan and potentially secure a fight against Lopez himself, with some of boxing’s biggest names tipping him to defeat ‘Tank’ in the rematch.

Lopez is the current WBO super-lightweight champion and most recently defended his belt with a win over Arnold Barboza in May, meaning if a fight was to indeed happen with the Davis vs. Roach winner, they may be required to step up to 140lbs to secure it.
