Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson is arguably the biggest fight that can be made at 135lbs.

The two Americans each hold versions of the lightweight world title, with Davis the current WBA champion, while Stevenson is in possession of the WBC belt.

Both men have been in action recently, and while neither of them may have lost, they each received criticism for their performances.

Davis fought Lamont Roach in New York on March 1, and could only manage a majority decision draw, after a controversial bout that saw ‘Tank’ take a knee but the referee chose not to give him a count.

Had he done so, the scorecards would have been in Roach’s favour, with the New York State Athletic Commission currently investigating the matter, with some boxing figures speculating it could lead to the result being changed.

Stevenson fought a week earlier on February 22, taking on late replacement Josh Padley, after his original opponent Floyd Schofield was forced out of the bout through illness on fight week.

The fight ended with Stevenson claiming a ninth round stoppage victory, but some fans were disappointed in the display, believing that he should have got Padley out of there a lot sooner.

With two new performances to compare and contrast, the boxing world has continued to speculate over how a possible fight between Davis and Stevenson would go, and two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez is the latest to offer his thoughts.

Lopez has been linked with both men throughout his own career, having becoming unified world champion at lightweight, before moving up to 140lbs where he now holds the WBO super-lightweight title.

He returns to action in May when he defends his belt against Arnold Barboza, and speaking to Fight Hub TV at the launch press conference for that fight, Lopez gave his prediction for Davis vs. Stevenson.

“I still think Gervonta will win against Shakur. Technically I just think like that.”

Lopez isn’t the only big name to predict Davis vs. Stevenson after their two recent performances, with top trainer Robert Garcia also delivering a new take on the potential match-up.
