Teofimo Lopez has shared a damning verdict on the credentials of an unbeaten three-weight world champion.

‘The Takeover’ currently reigns as the WBO super-lightweight champion, making the most recent successful defence of his crown against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr at Times Square in New York City on May 2.

The 28-year-old from Brooklyn previously held the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world lightweight titles, defeating Ukrainian legend Vasyl Lomachenko via unanimous decision when they clashed in Las Vegas back in 2020.

Lopez was dethroned just one fight later however, suffering a split decision defeat to Australia’s George Kambosos Jr in what would prove to be his final ring appearance at 135lbs.

As he prepares to make his return to the ring, which is expected to take place during the early stages of 2026, Lopez has made a sensational claim about WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

Speaking on the Stories Untold Podcast, Lopez claimed that Stevenson is the most ‘overrated fighter in boxing’, as speculation grows about a potential showdown between the duo taking place next.

“I’ll just say it, I think Shakur Stevenson, who I’m gonna be facing, I think he’s overrated, I think so yeah. He’s been decreasing on his style, but people amp it up like he’s really got the goods. I’m looking forward to us finally facing in that squared circle and really showing the world.”

Whilst an official announcement is yet to be made, reports are suggesting that Lopez is set to make the next defence of his WBO super-lightweight title against Stevenson in January, after it was revealed that both fighters have agreed to face each other in an intriguing all-American showdown.
