Paulie Malignaggi always has plenty to say when it comes to Saul Canelo Alvarez.
The two-weight world champion turned boxing analyst has praised the Mexican when he felt it was deserved, but has equally just been as critical over certain aspects of his career.
That has continued once again with Malignaggi naming the fighter that he feels will run straight over Canelo, and it may not come as a surprise to many who he is referring to.
The man in question is David Benavidez, who has long been linked to a clash with Alvarez, but any potential fight has yet to materialise.
With that in mind, Malignaggi has told Pro Box TV just how one-sided he feels a fight would mean if Canelo and Benavidez were to meet.
“Benavidez runs Canelo over like a locomotive running over the car that got stuck in front of the train tracks. That’s if that fight happens. It does not.”
Former world champion Chris Algieri then hit back at Malignaggi and defended Alvarez.
“Nobody runs over Canelo tops. Nobody is going to run over him. You’ve got to give this guy credit.”
But Malignaggi doubled down and felt that Alvarez is avoiding the dangerous fighters.
“He won’t fight the guys that run you over. He gets credit, but there the credit gets stopped.”
Canelo will be looking to prove Malignaggi wrong with his potential next fight, after he made it clear who he plans to target following his win over Edgar Berlanga in September, which could ruin Benavidez’s plans in the process.
