Mike Tyson remains one of the heavyweight division’s most fearsome ever fighters.
The American still holds the record for being the youngest boxer to ever pick up a world title when he beat Trevor Berbick in 1986.
He got there by winning all of his first 19 fights, with 12 first-round knockouts, and his hit streak continued as he went on to become undisputed heavyweight champion.
His current record sits at 59 fights, 50 wins, and he was last out back in November 2024 when he took on a man less than half his age in Jake Paul.
Before that, his last fight was in June 2005 when, already long past his best and beaten by Lennox Lewis and Danny Williams, he was also beaten inside six rounds by Kevin McBride
Speaking to Compare.bet, McBride still rates Tyson as one of the best ever.
“If today’s heavyweights tested themselves, they’d come up short. Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury would both be in there with a puncher’s chance, because Wilder’s power is real, but honestly, I think prime Tyson knocks them both out, maybe even on the same night. That’s how dangerous he was.”
Wilder has one last roll of the dice when he takes on Derek Chisora in April. Both men are in their forties and have had 49 fights, with surely only the winner able to continue fighting at this late stage in their careers.
Fury, meanwhile, returns from a year out against Arslanbek Makhmudov also in April.
