Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are gearing up to face each other in arguably the biggest fight in boxing.
The Mexican great will defend his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’ on Saturday September 13 at an undisclosed location in the USA, although Las Vegas is set to play host to the mega-fight.
Canelo returned to the ring on May 2 as he defeated former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull after an underwhelming twelve rounds in Riyadh, achieving undisputed status at 168lbs for the second time in his glittering career.
Victory for ‘Bud’ Crawford would see the 37-year-old switch-hitter from Omaha become a five division world champion and the first fighter in male boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.
In an interview with iFL TV, two-division champion Amir Khan, who faced both Canelo and Crawford during his professional career, has admitted that he is leaning more towards the American superstar to get the job done.
“My opinion, I’m gonna lean more towards Crawford in that one because I think he’s a fresh fighter, he’s a cleaner fighter, but at the same time Canelo, I like Canelo he’s a great guy, but I just don’t think he has that spark anymore. You know, there always comes an end to everything. I think he’s had his best days now, not to sound disrespectful I think he’s a great guy.”
Canelo was criticised for his performance against Scull, with the Mexican superstar likely needing an improved performance when he goes up against Crawford in September.
