A former world champion who shared the ring with Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe has given his take for how a fight between the two men would play out.
Froch and Calzaghe are regarded as two of the best British fighters of all time, with ‘The Cobra’ having beaten the likes of Mikkel Kessler, Lucian Bute and Jermain Taylor, while Calzaghe overcame fighters such as Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr and Chris Eubank.
The two Brits were linked to a fight with one another for a number of years, and despite them both hanging up the gloves over a decade ago they are still receiving offers over a potential showdown.
Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh revealed he recently attempted to make the fight, but Froch claimed that the Welshman rejected the offer to step back into the ring to face him.
Former WBC super-middleweight champion Robin Reid faced both men during his career, losing a split decision to Calzaghe in 1999 and then suffering a fifth round retirement defeat to Froch in 2007.
Having experienced what it is like to share the ring with both fighters, Reid told IFL TV that he feels that Froch would ‘destroy’ Calzaghe were they to meet now.
“I’ll be honest, I think Carl Froch would destroy him now, I know it sounds harsh, but I’ve been in with them both at different points of my career….He [Calzaghe] turned it down, I think that’s a good move.”
As for a prediction back in the day, Reid also backed Froch to ‘walk through’ the Welshman.
While Alalshikh says he’s still hopeful of making the fight, it’s doubtful that these two British boxing legends will ever share the ring with one another.
