Heavyweight Who Sent Mike Tyson Into Retirement Says He Can Still Feel His Power 21 Years On

A former opponent of Mike Tyson claims he can still feel the power of the heavyweight great over 20 years on from their clash.

Known for his thunderous punching power and explosive fighting style, Tyson made his mark on the heavyweight division during the 1980s where he became the youngest world champion that the division has ever seen.

‘Iron Mike’ knocked out Trevor Berbick in the 2nd round of their showdown at The Hilton in Las Vegas on November 22 1986 to capture the WBC heavyweight title and begin his era of dominance.

The New York-native later added the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles to his collection with respective victories over James Smith and Tony Tucker to achieve undisputed status just days after his 21st birthday.

Whilst he enjoyed considerable success at the height of his career, Tyson was faced with a number of difficulties during the back end of his tenure and suffered a number of unfortunate defeats.

One of these losses came against Ireland’s Kevin McBride, who stopped Tyson in the 6th round of what would prove to be the final bout of his career back in June of 2005.

Speaking to Bloody Elbow, McBride claimed that he could still feel the power of Tyson despite their bout coming over two decades ago.

“Mike Tyson’s power is unbelievable. I still feel it to this day, more than 19 years later … He hits so hard and power is the last thing to go. George Foreman proved that against Michael Moorer. Sure he was a bit younger than Mike is now but power-wise it is one of the biggest punches in history.”

Tyson made a sensational return to the ring in November of 2024 when he was outpointed by former Youtube star Jake Paul at the conclusion of their controversial heavyweight bout at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
