Fighter Who Sparred Both Canelo And Mayweather Has No Doubt Who Would Win A Prime vs Prime Fight

Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather will go down in boxing history for their incredible service to the sport.

Mayweather remained unbeaten for the entirety of his 21-year professional boxing career, which spanned between 1996 and 2017. He won world titles in five divisions during this period, with victories over the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto.

Canelo is just shy of 70 fights into his exceptional career, which began back in 2005 when he was just 15-years-old. The Mexican great currently reigns as the undisputed super-middleweight champion, a title he won for the second time in his tenure on May 3 when he defeated Cuba’s former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull.

One man who has experience in sharing the ring with Canelo and Mayweather is British welterweight contender Jack Catterall, who has spent time sparring both fighters during his professional career.

Mayweather and Canelo met back in September 2013 during the early stages of the Mexican’s career, with Mayweather claiming a points victory over his rival to hand Canelo his first defeat. He has since argued that it would be a different story was he more seasoned.

In a feature with Matchroom Boxing, Catterall answered a number of quick-fire questions regarding his time spent training alongside Canelo and Mayweather, before revealing who he believes would have prevailed had both fighters fought during their prime years.

“Floyd [Mayweather].”

‘Money’ announced his retirement from the sport back in 2017, just a few months after he got the better of MMA fighter Conor McGregor in their monumental crossover showdown in August of the same year.

As for Canelo, the 34-year-old is just a couple of months away from his highly anticipated clash with Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, which takes place on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
