Marco Antonio Barrera Delivers Honest Verdict On Canelo vs Benavidez: “That’s All He’s Missing”

Canelo Alvarez vs David Benavidez continues to be a dream fight for many boxing fans.

It would bring together two of the sport’s current top talents, with Canelo a four-weight world champion and one of the pound-for-pound kings, and Benavidez an unbeaten knockout artist who previously held the WBC super-middleweight title.

Benavidez has recently stepped up to light heavyweight and will face fellow undefeated fighter David Morrell in January, while Alvarez is expected to return in May on his usual Cinco de Mayo date to celebrate Mexico.

Another of Mexico’s greatest ever boxers is the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera, who was a three-weight world champion from super bantamweight to super featherweight.

He has commented on the potential Canelo vs. Benavidez fight whilst talking to Fight Hub TV, and feels like Alvarez needs to take it to secure his legacy.

“Canelo is a boxer with really good qualities. A four time world champion in different divisions, but he’s missing that one fight and that’s Benavidez.

I believe he could fight Benavidez, it’s a clash that we want to see, where I believe people would start to give him the credibility that Canelo Alvarez has to me.

He’s a great boxer, but he needs that little push, but it’s not to up him. It’s up to a boxer to stand up to him and challenge him like they should.”

Fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson has also had his say on the match-up, and he didn’t hesitate when asked to pick a winner.
