Juan Manuel Marquez has revealed who he believes will prevail when Canelo Alvarez faces Terence Crawford later this year.
It was announced at the beginning of last month that the pound-for-pound stars would lock horns on Saturday September 13 at an unconfirmed venue in the United States, although Las Vegas is said to be the location of choice.
Canelo will make the first defence of his four super-middleweight championship which he won on May 2 when he defeated former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull in Riyadh, achieving the four-belt status at 168lbs for the second time in his career.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez had his say on who he thinks will come out on top between Canelo and Crawford.
“I don’t like the fight. Terence Crawford’s a good fighter, but in the sport of boxing we have divisions. Weight classes. He is a good fighter in super-lightweight, welterweight, super-welterweight, but more?
“I remember when he fought with Madrimov. He looked slow, no power. Two more divisions? I think it’s a tough fight for Terence Crawford. But he is a great fighter. He has great defence, good combination punches, but I think the weight class is no good for him.”
Crawford is looking to prove the doubters wrong and that the tricky night against Israil Madrimov for his super-welterweight debut will not affect him moving up further.
Should he pull off the victory, he will become the first male fighter to be undisputed in three-weight classes.
