Floyd Mayweather Now In Talks To Return For Shock Rematch Against Fellow Boxing Legend

Floyd Mayweather is in talks for a shock clash against one of his former foes.

Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the history of the sport, having compiled an unbeaten record of 50-0 whilst becoming a five-weight world champion from super-featherweight to light middleweight before hanging up the gloves in 2017.

During that time the American shared the ring with a number of fellow greats, including Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez, and it seems that he could now be about to take on one of them again.

According to Inside The Ring, Mayweather is in talks for a potential rematch in 2026 with Pacquiao, with the fight being explored as another Netflix boxing event.

Mayweather and Pacquiao fought for the unified world welterweight titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas back in May 2015 in what was dubbed as the ‘Fight Of The Century’, with Mayweather claiming a unanimous decision victory.

Although the bout may have smashed a number of box office and pay-per-view records, the action inside the ring didn’t live up to the hype, but that hasn’t stopped the duo speculating about a rematch for a number of years, with it now seemingly a legitimate possibility.

While Mayweather has been retired for nearly a decade, Pacquiao recently made a dramatic return to the sport at the age of 46, as he was held to a majority decision draw against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in July.

The Filipino icon made it clear after that bout that he plans to continue, with the likes of Rolly Romero, Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia named as potential opponents, but a clash with former foe Mayweather could now be the favourite to happen.

Mayweather had previously announced that he was set to take on heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in an exhibition bout next year, with the current status of that clash now unknown.
