Floyd Mayweather Says Former Mike Tyson Rival Is The Best Heavyweight Ever: “He Beat Them All”

Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson have had a turbulent relationship over the years.

Both fighters are arguably the two biggest attractions in the sport in the past 40 years, with Mayweather becoming the number one pay-per-view star throughout the 2000s and 2010s, while ‘Iron Mike’ held that accolade in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Despite the pair of them having major success in their respective careers, there has been some bad blood over the years, with Tyson taking issue in the past with Mayweather once claiming that he was the greatest of all time, rather than Muhammad Ali.

Mayweather has now named who he believes to be the greatest heavyweight of all time, and chose neither Tyson or Ali, but instead a man that took on both of those men, as he explained to Fat Joe.

“I gotta be honest, I gotta go Larry Holmes. Larry Holmes beat everybody in his era. He had the basic fundamentals, he had the jab.”

Holmes fought Ali back in October 1980 during the latter stages of Ali’s career, defeating the boxing great by 10th round retirement, in a fight that many fans were uncomfortable with due to feeling that it shouldn’t have been taking place.

That was one of 20 successful title defences that Holmes made, having also made world title defences against the likes of Leon Spinks and Earnie Shavers, before he lost his world champion status with back-to-back defeats to Michael Spinks.

Holmes then took on Tyson in his next contest, in 1988, losing by fourth round knockout. Holmes would continue boxing until 2002, ending his career with a record of 69 wins and 6 defeats.
