The monumental showdown between Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez and Terence Crawford has been officially announced.
The pound-for-pound stars will do battle at an undisclosed location in Las Vegas on Saturday September 13, with the fight set to be broadcast live around the world on Netflix.
After much speculation, it was confirmed that the fight will be co-promoted by Riyadh Season, Dana White’s TKO Promotions and Sela, with Canelo making the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight titles.
Canelo reclaimed the undisputed championship at 168lbs at the beginning of last month when he defeated IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh, becoming the first fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat on two occasions.
One man who has had quite a lot to say about both fighters in the past is retired pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather Jr, who actually handed Canelo the first defeat of his career when they locked horns back in 2013.
In an interview with Fight Hype, Mayweather gave an honest assessment of Canelo as he claims his victory over the Mexican icon was ‘easy’.
“You can take a guy like Canelo. I’ll tell the truth about Canelo. The mo**erf**ker was easy. A cakewalk, easy. You’re all praising this dude. He was nothing. I was almost 40 and I cooked this dude, easy.”
‘Money’ Mayweather has also shared his thoughts about Crawford, where he claims he ranks his countryman at the top of his pound-for-pound list.
“As of right now, I’d put Terence Crawford as number one.”
‘Bud’ Crawford has set his sights on defying the odds once again by becoming a three weight undisputed champion, but faces what is unquestionably the toughest test of his glittering professional career against the Mexican superstar who remains a dominant force at 168lbs.
