Floyd Mayweather fought some of the best fighters on the planet during his time in the ring.
He retired with an unbeaten record of 50-0, and was a five-weight world champion from super-featherweight to super-welterweight.
Mayweather defeated some huge names during his illustrious career, including Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez and Jose Luis Castillo.
Those impressive victories saw Mayweather give himself the nickname ‘TBE’ – referring to his belief that he was ‘The Best Ever.’
There was one fighter that Mayweather says he is glad he never fought though, and that is former world champion Antonio Margarito.
The two fighters were linked to a fight at one stage but it never materialised, and Mayweather has told the It is what it is podcast why he is happy it didn’t happen.
“Everything happens for a reason. You’re not gonna be able to fight everybody, so they’re gonna always have something to say about a certain opponent. Floyd didn’t fight him, Floyd didn’t fight this guy. I fought all the guys put in front of me.
With the Antonio Margarito fight, I’m actually glad that it didn’t happen. My career is very important to me. Anything can happen in the sport of boxing. Antonio Margarito, he’s a cheater when it’s said and done. You see what happened to Miguel Cotto when he fought him the first time. That could’ve easily been me.”
Margarito fought Cotto in July 2008, with Margarito handing the Puerto Rican star star his first defeat in a surprise stoppage loss.
In Margarito’s next bout, he lost to Shane Mosley, and plaster-like substance on illegal pads was found inside Margarito’s hand wraps. It called his victory over Cotto into question, though Cotto did gain revenge on Margarito when they met again in December 2011.
