Floyd Mayweather Names The Greatest Heavyweight Of All Time: “I Gotta Be Honest”

Former pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather has revealed who he believes to be the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Mayweather is often credited with being one of, if not the greatest fighter of all time, winning multiple world titles across five weight classes during his illustrious 21-year professional career.

He became a dominant force throughout the late 2000s into the 2010s, defeating the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya to name just a few.

Mayweather produced the 50th and final victory of his professional career in August 2017 when he stopped MMA fighter Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their non-title showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In an interview with Fat Joe, Mayweather spoke fondly of former world champion Larry Holmes as he claims ‘The Easton Assassin’ is the greatest heavyweight to have ever laced up a pair of gloves.

“If we gonna go heavyweights, I’m gonna be honest I gotta go Larry Holmes. Do you want me to give you the breakdown? Cause Larry Holmes beat everybody in his era. When he got beat by Mike Tyson, he got beat by a young, hungry champion and he came out of years retirement.”

“That man had the basic fundamentals. He had the jab. And even right now he’s still living a great life cause he made smart investments. So he was good from the beginning of his career till the end of his career. And he came back and beat a lot of young guys too. Even though Tyson got him, he beat Ray Mercer.”

Holmes held the world heavyweight championship for seven years between 1978 and 1985, making no less than 20 successful defences of his crown against the likes of Trevor Berbick, James Smith and Muhammad Ali along the way.
