Former pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather believes there was just one heavyweight capable of beating a prime version of Muhammad Ali.
Ali, who is known as ‘The Greatest’, is widely considered to be the best fighter to have ever laced up a pair of boxing gloves, an opinion shared by millions of fans around the world.
Prior to his dominance within the paid ranks, Ali became an Olympic Gold Medallist when he captured the top prize at the 1960 Summer Games in Rome, Italy.
He would go on to become a holder of the world heavyweight championship on several occasions during his professional career, defeating a number of boxing icons along the way including Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Sonny Liston.
Despite the incredible achievements of ‘The Greatest’, five-weight world champion Mayweather has named the one heavyweight that he thinks would have got the better of a prime version of Ali in shock claim.
In a ‘Winner Stays On’ feature with Daily Mail Sport, Mayweather didn’t hesitate to back former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis to defeat ‘The Greatest’ in an intriguing fantasy showdown.
Lewis is often regarded as being one of, if not the greatest heavyweight of the 1990s. ‘The Lion’ racked up a number of legacy-defining victories during his tenure which culminated in him becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion when he defeated Evander Holyfield in November of 1999.
‘The Lion’ would fight for a further four years after that, beating the likes of Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko before hanging up the gloves after his final bout in 2003.
