Floyd Mayweather Names The One Heavyweight Capable Of Defeating A Prime Muhammad Ali

Former pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather has named the heavyweight that he believes was capable of beating a prime Muhammad Ali.

Known by his iconic moniker ‘The Greatest’, Ali is widely considered to be one of, if not the best heavyweight to have ever laced up a pair of boxing gloves.

The Kentucky-native enjoyed a great deal of success during his decorated professional career, winning the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions along the way.

Perhaps the most memorable win of his career came in October of 1974 when he defied the odds to knock out countryman George Foreman in the eighth round of ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’ in Kinshasa, Zaire.

Despite his outstanding success and leaving such an incredible legacy behind, former five-weight world champion Mayweather believes there is just one heavyweight that would have beaten Ali even at his very best.

In a round of ‘Winner Stays On’ with The Daily Mail, Mayweather backed former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis to get the better of Ali in an intriguing fantasy clash between the pair.

Lewis is often credited with being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, becoming a holder of the world heavyweight championship on three occasions during his career which culminated in him reigning as the undisputed champion.

‘The Lion’ defeated Evander Holyfield via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their historic showdown back in 1999 to capture the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles in Las Vegas, a few months after the pair had initially fought to a controversial draw.
