Manny Pacquiao is set to make a sensational return to boxing in a matter of weeks and some boxing fans have speculated whether Floyd Mayweather Jr could follow suit.

Pacquiao will face reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios at an unconfirmed location in Las Vegas on Saturday July 19.

It will be the Filipino’s first ring appearance in four years, with his last outing ending in a unanimous decision defeat to former WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas in 2021.

As ‘Pac-Man’ prepares to potentially defy the odds and dethrone Barrios, another all-time-great who is rumoured to be weighing up a return to the ring is Mayweather, who has not fought as a professional since he defeated MMA star Conor McGregor in their crossover fight in 2017.

Speaking on The Mayweather Channel, Floyd’s father Mayweather Sr gave an honest assessment of his son making a return to the professional ranks after eight years away.

“No deal. I’m telling you when I do it like that, you know what’s up.”

Mayweather Sr then made a shock claim that his son could defeat Pacquiao and Conor McGregor on the same night if he did return.

“I believe so. I really believe this, I’m telling you the honest truth. I’m telling you this right here, Floyd can whoop Pacquiao and then turn right back around, give him about a three round rest, then he’ll come back and get Conor and I’m telling you, both of them going to sleep.”

Mayweather’s last outing came against John Gotti III, who he faced in an exhibition contest last August.
