Floyd Mayweather Jr has made his feelings clear on both fighters ahead of the upcoming ‘super-fight’ between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
The pound-for-pound stars are just over one month away from doing battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday September 13.
Canelo began his second reign as undisputed champion at 168lbs when he defeated former IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3, becoming the first fighter in the history of the sport to achieve this feat.
As for Crawford, the unbeaten 37-year-old from Omaha is due to make his first appearance at super-middleweight, having spent the almost the entirety of his tenure campaigning at welterweight where he became the first undisputed champion of the ‘four belt era’ when he defeated Errol Spence Jr 2-years-ago.
One man with experience in sharing the ring with Canelo is retired pound-for-pound star and five division champion Floyd Mayweather, who handed the Mexican icon the first defeat of his career when they fought back in 2013.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Mayweather previously shared his thoughts on Canelo as a fighter, as he claims defeating the Mexican great was ‘easy work’.
“You can take a guy like Canelo. I’ll tell the truth about Canelo. The mo**erf**ker was easy. A cakewalk, easy. You’re all praising this dude. He was nothing. I was almost 40 and I cooked this dude, easy.”
More recently Mayweather has shared his verdict on ‘Bud’, praising his countryman by ranking him as the best fighter on the planet right now.
“As of right now, I’d put Terence Crawford as number one.”
Victory for the unbeaten American will see him write his name into the boxing history books as he sets his sights on becoming the first ever fighter to win an undisputed champion in three weight classes.
