Former pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweatheris set to make a sensational return to professional boxing this year.
The 48-year-old from Michigan drew the curtain on his glittering career back in 2017 although he has participated in a number of exhibition contests since then.
He stopped former two-weight UFC world champion Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their crossover bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in August 2017 to pick up his 50th career win and retire from the sport without suffering a single loss.
Mayweather is initially expected to face former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in an exhibition clash this spring. Following this, the five-weight world champion is scheduled to make a return to the professional side of the sport, with an epic rematch against former rival Manny Pacquiao.
Ahead of his highly-anticipated comeback, Mayweather shared a short video of him hitting the pads with the son of Roger Mayweather on social media which has captured the attention of former rival McGregor.
Commenting on the short clip, McGregor welcomed Mayweather home as he begins his journey towards his surprise return to the ring this year.
“Welcome home Floyd!”
Whilst his upcoming clash with Tyson is yet to be officially announced, the legendary American duo are expected to face each other at an undisclosed venue in the Democratic Republic of Congo this April.
Attention will then turn to the second meeting between Mayweather and Pacquiao, which is scheduled to take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas in September.
‘Money’ was last in exhibition action back in August of 2024 when he faced John Gotti III in their second encounter at the Mexico City Arena.
