Shane McGuigan has a strong view of what would happen if Fabio Wardley were to fight Tyson Fury.
The two heavyweights are at different ends of their career. Fury is back in training after his latest retirement, having not fought at all in 2025 following a brace of back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, and this year, he turns 38 after having had many hard fights. So, even with the return, he is very much approaching the final chapter.
Wardley, on the other hand, plans to be around for some years yet. The Ipswich man is in the form of his life after a big year that saw him stop Justis Huni and Joseph Parker before being elevated to WBO champion when Usyk vacated rather than defend against him.He has now welcomed a fight with the returning ‘Gypsy King.’
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, top trainer McGuigan didn’t hesitate when asked what would happen if the two were to meet.
“Fury beats him, yeah, points.”
He then went into more detail about the how and why.
“Really, Fabio is only good when you go to him, that’s why Tyson Fury beats him in my opinion, he will just go away from him. He can’t pick his feet up, that’s why he generates that power when he comes in.
“He looks so rocky all the time that people go in for the finish and he turns one over and pulls one out of the bag. So someone that would be disciplined like Fury who can stick by his jab and sense him beats him.”
Wardley is expected to make his first defence in the coming months, with Derek Chisora a frontrunner. Fury, meanwhile, will return in a relative ‘tune-up’ fight before targeting the top dogs.
