Duke McKenzie thinks that a fight between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois is potentially one of the best that can be made right now.
Wardley got two impressive KO wins in 2025, first stopping Justis Huni then Joseph Parker, after which he was elevated to full WBO champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated his belt rather than defending it.
Dubois lost to Usyk in July but before that had been on a fine run that saw him stop Anthony Joshua to retain his IBF belt after also stopping Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller.
Speaking to Boxing Social, McKenzie suggested that going straight in with Wardley now would be a bad move for ‘DDD’, who has not fought since last summer.
“I’d probably pay my own money to go and watch that one. That’s as good as it gets. In world boxing right now, that’s as good it gets. Daniel would need a couple of warm-up fights. Not one, he need ones or two if he’s going to take on Fabio Wardley.”
He then had high praise for the current form of the Ipswich fighter.
“Fabio doesn’t play, he’s a wrecking machine right now. Anybody that gets in his way, they’ve got to be ready. You can’t get in there and half step with the kid cause like I say, he’s an absolute wrecking machine.
“Daniel is going to need a comeback fight to get his confidence back, then another fight to get some rounds under his belt, then he can start talking about Fabio Wardley cause Fabio is a world champion in his own right, he’s not someone to have a comeback fight with.”
