Mexican Boxing Legend Says He Would Have ‘Definitely’ Beaten Floyd Mayweather

A Boxing Hall of Famer believes he’d have beaten Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, after claiming world honours in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight.

During that time he was involved in some of the biggest fights in boxing history, defeating icons such as Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

Despite never tasting defeat, some boxing figures have pinpointed certain fights they believe Mayweather should have lost, and another big name has also claimed he’d have defeated the American had they ever met.

That man is Julio Cesar Chavez, the Mexican superstar that is widely regarded as one of the best to ever lace up a pair of gloves.

Chavez was a three-weight world champion and a former pound-for-pound number one, and he told Premier Live TV exactly why he thinks he’d have defeated Mayweather.

“In our prime I think it would have been a difficult fight. I believe that at 140lbs or 135lbs I would have definitely beaten him. I would have beaten him why because that is my weight.

“I could never dial at 147lbs. I fought for the championship but no it was no my weight. You understand me I think at 135 140 would have beaten Mayweather.

“Remember that I fought with his uncle and his uncle was the one who taught him, so that is why I think I would have beaten him.”

Chavez and Roger Mayweather fought in May 1989, with Chavez winning by 10th round retirement to win the WBC super-lightweight title, extending his unbeaten record to an incredible 63-0 at the time.

Chavez would finally retire in September 2005, with his final record standing at a superb 107 wins, 6 defeats and 2 draws.
