Miguel Cotto is one the greatest Puerto Rican fighters of all time.

Throughout his 16-year professional career, which spanned between 2001 and 2017, Cotto won world titles across four weight divisions, becoming the first fighter from Puerto Rico to achieve this feat.

He racked up a number of career defining victories during his tenure, defeating the likes of Shane Mosley, Zab Judah and Sergio Martinez to name a few.

He did suffer a number of close defeats however, falling short to a number of generational greats such as Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

Despite facing the likes of Canelo and Pacquiao, Cotto once named former two-weight world champion Randall Bailey as the only fighter who hit him harder than the aforementioned superstars.

“This guy Randall Bailey, in my first title defense back in 2004. He caught me with a good right hand but I handled it well and I did my job.”

Cotto stopped Bailey in the sixth round of their 2006 bout in Las Vegas to successfully defend his WBO world light-welterweight title for the first time. The Puerto Rican great would go on to make five more defences of his 140lb crown before making the move up to welterweight, where he captured the vacant WBA title with a dominant fifth round stoppage victory over Carlos Quintana.

He suffered defeat the 47th and final bout of his career in 2017 when he was outpointed by Sadam Ali, losing his WBO light-middleweight title in the process. He announced his retirement from boxing shortly after.
