Miguel Cotto Delivers Honest Verdict On Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez Fight

The potential match-up between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez continues to be a hot topic within boxing.

Crawford moved up to 154lbs for his last contest, defeating Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title and become a four-weight world champion in the process.

His lofty ambitions haven’t ended there though, as ‘Bud’ has made it clear that he is willing to remarkably jump up another two weight divisions to super-middleweight for a showdown with Canelo.

Alvarez is the current king at 168lbs, holding the WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles, though he lost his undisputed status when he was stripped of his IBF belt for not taking on mandatory challenger William Scull.

Instead Canelo fought Edgar Berlanga in September, winning the fight by unanimous decision to keep hold of his belts, with attention now turning to who he could take on next year.

Crawford remains an option, and if it was to take place, boxing legend and four-weight world champion Miguel Cotto thinks it could be a difficult task for Canelo, as he revealed to Seconds Out.

“The set of skills that Crawford has can cause a lot of trouble for Canelo.”

Cotto fought Alvarez during the latter stages of his career back in November 2015, with Canelo earning a comfortable unanimous decision victory.

Whether a fight between Crawford and Canelo takes place next year remains to be seen, but for now, ‘Bud’ is focusing on returning to the ring soon, and he has revealed the only man that he feels can defeat him.
