Mike Perry and Nate Diaz are two MMA fighters who have recently been added to Jake Paul’s list of boxing victims.
Paul faced Diaz in the ring last year. The Stockton fighter proved to be one of the brash American’s toughest opponents so far, but eventually lost out on a unanimous points decision.
‘The Problem Child’ then took on two professional boxers, albeit who nobody expected to be a real threat, in Andre August and Ryan Bourland. They both suffered the same fate and were defeated by first round stoppage.
Paul was then scheduled to face the legendary former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on July 20. However, ‘Iron’ Mike suffered an ulcer flare-up and bout was postponed until later in the year. The 27-year old decided to stay active and face Perry on the original fight date.
Perry’s heart was on full display but unfortunately so was the bare knuckle champion’s lack of boxing ability and he was knocked down several times before the referee halted the action in the fifth round.
Attention now turns back to the Tyson fight and the two former UFC fighters have very different opinions on how it will go.
Speaking on Paul’s podcast, Perry believes his former opponent’s youth will be the determining factor come fight night.
“I think you [Jake] win. I think you’re younger and I think you’re doing the right things as far as what your team has you doing, it works.
I wasn’t able to add anything up on you, I wasn’t able to have you punch yourself out, I wasn’t able to get you on the ropes where I could release a flurry and at 58, Mike’s age is something I’m thinking about.
I think you get that.”
However, in stark contrast, Diaz was emphatic that the legendary boxing icon would come out on top when asked to predict by Inside Fighting.
“Mike Tyson!”
Paul vs Tyson takes place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on November 15 and will be streamed live on Netflix.
