Mike Perry knows what it’s like to share a ring with Jake Paul.
Perry is a former UFC fighter and bare-knuckle boxer who challenged social media personality turned professional boxer Paul back in July.
The fight was a replacement for the Paul versus Mike Tyson main event which had to be rescheduled to November in light of a medical issue for the former heavyweight champion.
Paul won by stoppage in the sixth round and has also defeated MMA fighters like Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz, but lost a close decision when he faced fellow boxer Tommy Fury in early 2023.
He is now just days away from his controversial showdown with ‘Iron’ Mike, but ahead of that, Perry has spoken in a video shared by FightHype about Paul’s power compared to what he is used to in bare-knuckle contests.
“It was hard to tell ’cause of the weight. The weight was totally new to me. When I hit people bare knuckle it just works.
Maybe they don’t have the boom that they have with the gloves cause they don’t have to worry about protecting their hands with the bit of extra padding so a boxing punch is a bit bigger. His first one took me off my feet.”
During his professional career Tyson had a total of 58 fights and won 50, 44 by stoppage, so knows about both landing and receiving big shots from powerful punchers including the likes of Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, and many more.
He is, however, 30 years older than Paul which is likely to play a huge part in their controversial 8-round contest in November.
