Former MMA star Mike Perry has shared his thoughts on the intriguing showdown between past rival Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis.
It was confirmed earlier this week that WBA lightweight champion Davis will clash with Paul on Friday November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Paul was initially in line to face two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua next but these plans were eventually shelved after it was claimed there were a number of network issues between the fighters that could not be resolved.
Instead, ‘The Problem Child’ will go up against a man who is eight inches shorter than him and weighed in at over 60 pounds lighter than him in his last outing when he drew with fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr in March.
Perry, who was stopped in the sixth round of his showdown with Paul last year, shared an honest verdict to Fight Hub TV on the upcoming bout between his former rival and ‘Tank’ Davis, as he questions whether the 30-year-old from Baltimore still ‘loves boxing’.
“Jake is big, Tank has a lot of skill, but I don’t think he’s the same Tank that we saw [get] the most incredible knockouts. I mean Lamont Roach performed great, they went to draw and Tank walked away. I don’t know if he loves it enough to beat a guy who outweighs him by 80 to 100 pounds.”
There have actually been rumours circulating since the beginning of the year that Davis could go on to announce his retirement from boxing by the end of 2025, but ‘Tank’ insists he plans to continue with his career following the bout with Paul in November.
