Mike Tyson has weighed in on who would win the battle between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez.
Tyson is currently preparing for his showdown with Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which takes place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday 15 November.
That was one of many wins that Canelo has had at super-middleweight, having never lost at 168lbs. One man that some fans think would push Alvarez all the way though is undefeated sensation Benavidez.
Benavidez is unbeaten at 29-0, with 24 of his wins by knockout. He has been chasing a fight with Canelo for several years, but has recently stepped up to light-heavyweight after the fight didn’t look close to materialising.
Tyson has been a long-time admirer of Benavidez, and he explained just why he is such a big fan.
“His attitude. He was a little heavy fat kid and he wanted to prove himself to the world.”
When asked about the potential match-up, Tyson backed Benavidez not only to beat Canelo but to defeat anyone he faces.
“I think he beats everybody he gets in the ring. He could beat everybody, my money is with Benavidez until he gets beat, and then if he gets beat I’m still with him.”
Tyson will be a keen observer when Benavidez returns against David Morrell in January, but first ‘Iron Mike’ will be focused on his battle with Paul in November, and recent sparring footage has shown just how hard the heavyweight legend is hitting.
