Mike Tyson Says Not Fighting One Man Was The Only Regret In His Career

Known for his explosive fighting style and thunderous power, ‘Iron Mike’ established himself as arguably the best heavyweight on the planet at the peak of his powers.

The New York-native wrote his name into the boxing history books back in 1986 when he defeated Trevor Berbick to capture the WBC heavyweight title and become the youngest world heavyweight champion of all time.

Tyson added the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles to his collection just months later and would achieve undisputed status just days after he turned 21-years-old.

Whilst he became the subject of controversy during the later stages of his career, Tyson is still considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever graced the sport, an opinion that is shared by fans around the world.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, ‘Iron Mike’ revealed the late-great George Foreman as the one man that he wished he could have fought during his tenure as he claims he wanted to prove who was the biggest puncher between himself and his countryman.

“I would have liked to fight George Foreman. There have been many fans who wondered who was the bigger puncher. I would have liked to put an end to the discussion – one way or the other.”

Tyson and Foreman had reportedly been in contention to face each other back in the late 1980s but a showdown between the legendary American did not come to fruition.

‘Big George’ later went on to become the oldest world heavyweight champion of all time when he stopped Michael Moorer in the 10th round of their Las Vegas showdown back in November 1994, a record that remains unbroken to this day.

Tyson is due to make a shock comeback to the sport this year after it was revealed that the 59-year-old would be facing former pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather Jr in an exhibition contest.
