Mike Tyson has been asked about why Canelo Alvarez has not yet accepted what would be a huge fight with David Benavidez.
The pair have long been linked by boxing fans who would love to see the current unified super-middleweight champion take on former champion turned interim light-heavyweight belt holder Benavidez.
Canelo is one of the best active fighters around with just two losses in his career, and there are few challenges in the sport that are as exciting as a fight with ‘The Monster’ who has a famously high punch output and never stops walking forward.
The Mexican has previously said he would fight Benavidez but only for unrealistic amounts of money, and that caused his rival to move up a weight class rather than carry on waiting for his shot.
Canelo has stayed busy with a win over Edgar Berlanga last time out and has recently been linked with a fight with Chris Eubank Jr after the prospect of a contest with two-weight undisputed king Terence Crawford faded.
Speaking to Come And Talk 2 Me, former heavyweight legend Tyson was asked about Canelo and his apparent avoidance of Benavidez.
“That’s a big fight for him, he don’t want to fight him, I don’t know, we have to talk to Canelo about that. It appears to everyone in the world that’s he’s running, that he don’t want to fight the guy.”
Tyson himself could never be accused of running having taken on many of the top names in his division back in his heyday, from Frank Bruno to Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.
Next up, he takes on a man who is less than half his age when he fights Jake Paul in Texas live on Netflix on November 15.
