Mike Tyson‘s controversial fight with Jake Paul is fast approaching.
This unlikely coming together of two men from different generations has kept the boxing world talking since it was first announced.
The original July fight date was put back due to a medical issue for Tyson, who is now 58 but still holds the record for being the youngest-ever world heavyweight champion aged just 20.
He famously stopped all 12 of his first opponents inside the first round and didn’t go past six rounds until his 19th fight and went on to share the ring with legends like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.
Jake Paul is not yet 30 and has had just 11 fights against much lesser opposition than Tyson, which is why many people are worried for his safety in this fully sanctioned professional contest in November. He has just one loss to Tommy Fury and has beaten the likes of Nate Diaz and Mike Perry.
Speaking to Full Send Podcast years ago before the contest was ever on the cards, Tyson was asked how he would fare against Paul out, and he claimed it would be ‘so easy’.
“So f**king easy. but I would never, my family loves that mother f**ker because he has balls.”
He was then asked if he would knock him out as quickly as he used to knock people out in the early days of his career and though he agreed he would, ‘Iron Mike’ didn’t seem intent on making the fight happen.
“Yeh but nah, let him have his reign, let him have his time.”
A lot has changed since then and we are now just weeks away from the 8-round contest in Arlington, Texas which will be streamed live on Netflix.
