Mike Tyson knows a thing or two about the heavyweight division.
The boxing legend ruled the banner weight class during the 80s and early 90s, with his ferocious power leading to him becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion in history, along with his title of ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet.’
Tyson retired from the sport in 2005, but now returns nearly two decades on when he faces Jake Paul in Texas this Friday, in a fight that has caused controversy over whether or not it should be going ahead.
Fans will be hoping to see glimpses of the old Tyson in the fight, who secured 44 of his 50 victories by knockout during his illustrious career, defeating the likes of Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Tony Tucker and Frank Bruno.
Tyson also shared the ring with fellow boxing legends Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, and it led to a debate over how some of that crop would compete in the current era.
One fantasy fight that is always discussed is Lewis against domestic rival Anthony Joshua. Both men were Olympic gold medallists, with Lewis becoming undisputed heavyweight champion, and Joshua a unified world champion.
With that in mind, Tyson was dismissive when asked about the match-up by Manouk Akopyan, scoffing at the idea of ‘AJ’ defeating Lewis.
“Do you really think Joshua could beat Lennox Lewis? My era had good fighters.”
‘Iron Mike’ now turns his attention to the fight with Paul on Friday, and Lewis has summed up his former rival’s chances in just four words.
