Conor Benn has finally got the world title fight he has long been chasing against Ryan Garcia, and Mike Tyson is the latest to give his prediction.
Benn is taking a huge step up in class when he heads to Las Vegas on September 12. He has won 25 of his 26 bouts to date but has never fought anyone on the level of Garcia, who has shared the ring with multi-weight world champions such as Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney, and beat Mario Barrios on points to win his belt earlier this year.
Benn’s biggest nights have come against Chris Eubank Jr, who beat him once but then got beaten in the rematch, and former world champion Regis Prograis last time out.
Benn won a wide points decision at a catchweight of 150lbs and Prograis, who is long past his best, retired immediately after the fight.
Speaking to FigthHype, Tyson was asked who he thinks will win the fight at the T-Mobile Arena following Benn’s own prediction that he will end the contest early.
“Ryan.”
He was then asked if the victory would come via knockout, but ‘Iron Mike’ refused to commit.
“We’ll see. Conor’s getting better.”
Benn, who is now 29 years of age, has knocked out 14 of his opponents so far, though he hasn’t stopped anyone since he beat Chris van Heerden in 2021 and soon after tested positive for a banned substance.
Garcia meanwhile carries power but, more importantly, great speed in both hands, which is why Benn has his work cut out for him and is not favoured by many to get the win.
