Mike Tyson has assessed Oleksandr Usyk in terms of the whole history of the heavyweight division.
Tyson still holds the record for being the youngest ever heavyweight champion in history when he won the WBC title at the age of just 20.
Usyk came to the professional ranks later, having won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2012, and since then has become undisputed cruiserweight champion and then a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.
Speaking to RT Fight, ‘Iron Mike’ heaped praise on Usyk and what he has achieved.
“I’m very impressed with Oleksandr. Say whatever you want, but he’s the best heavyweight of this generation. Nobody can beat him. He beat everybody. He beat everybody, so he deserves his credit.”
The American legend then tried to compare how he might have got on back in his era.
“Maybe he would look good against some of us, and against others, not so good. You know, it’s hard for me to see him dominating that era. Back then, the fights were different, you understand? Everything came down to aggression.
“Fighters didn’t make big money, fighters didn’t have many rights. When we got into the ring, the aggressive fighter took more rounds. Even if he was taking more punches, if he made the fight, the round was his. Everything came down to emotions.”
Usyk is heading towards the end of his career, but believes he still has some big nights in him, which is why he called out Deontay Wilder. For that to happen, Wilder must first beat Derek Chisora in April.
