Mike Tyson is one of the most formidable fighters of all time, but has revealed who he believes to be the greatest fighter ever.
‘Iron Mike’ exploded onto the scene during the mid eighties, winning his first 19 professional bouts via stoppage with 12 of those wins coming inside the opening round.
His crowning moment came in 1986 when he blasted out WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick in the second round of their showdown in Las Vegas, becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion of all time in the process.
He picked up victories over WBA champion James Smith and IBF champion Tony Tucker in the year that followed his historic win over Berbick, achieving undisputed status just one month after his 21st birthday.
In response to footage of former pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather Jr claiming he is the greatest fighter of all time, Tyson claimed in a resurfaced clip he doesn’t doubt that legendary heavyweight Muhammad Ali is the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves, which he says ‘everyone’ knows.
“Alright listen we’re talking about Floyd, and listen we all gotta believe we’re the greatest of all times, right? We all gotta believe that, but we all know Muhammad Ali is the greatest of all times.”
Ali remains one of the sport’s most influential figures, coupled with his outstanding boxing ability that saw him dominate the heavyweight division during the seventies. His 1974 victory over George Foreman, which is more commonly known as ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’, is often regarded as being one of the most iconic moments in boxing’s long and storied history.
