Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson has named a former world champion as the only active fighter that reminds him of himself.
Known for his unique yet formidable fighting style, ‘Iron Mike’ is often credited with being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
He wrote his name into the boxing history books back in 1986 when he became the sports youngest ever world heavyweight champion with a victory over WBC title holder Trevor Berbick, a record than remains unbroken to this day.
Tyson later became the undisputed heavyweight champion after respective victories over WBA champion James Smith and IBF champion Tony Tucker, a feat he achieved just days after his 21st birthday.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Tyson spoke fondly of Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz who he claims is the only current fighter that actually reminds him of himself in a number of ways.
“If I had to say someone, I would say Isaac Cruz. He’s short and stubby for his weight like I was, and he comes at you. Cruz reminds me the most of who I was. He comes at you with bad intentions.”
Known for his aggressive fighting style, Cruz has already produced 28 victories during his professional career to date, racking up 18 stoppages along the way, whilst also sharing the ring with Gervonta Davis back in 2021.
The 28-year-old from Mexico City was last in action back in December when he fought to a majority decision draw over Lamont Roach Jr in what was the first defence of his WBC ‘interim’ world super-lightweight title.
