Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson remain on a collision course for a potential showdown.
The unbeaten world lightweight champions have been on each others radars for quite some time now, although a bout between the pair has yet to come to fruition.
‘Tank’ Davis currently holds the WBA lightweight title and Stevenson reigns as the WBC champion at 135lbs. Davis’ most recent outing came on March 1 when he fought to a split decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr, whereas Stevenson stopped Britain’s Josh Padley in the ninth round of their bout in Riyadh on February 22.
One man who has shown an interest in the potential match-up between ‘Tank’ and Stevenson is retired heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, who recently spoke out and predicted what he believes will happen if the pair eventually lock horns.
Speaking to iFL TV, ‘Iron’ Mike was asked to predict the outcome of what could well be the biggest fight in boxing between the unbeaten lightweight stars – and is siding with Tank to get his hand raised.
“Tough one. On record it looks like Tank’s the winner.
But Shakur’s one of those fighters that we were talking about in the car coming up here, he is so much better than what he looks like so I’m sure when Tank gets in there it’s not gonna be as easy as he anticipated.”
The boxing world are expected to have to wait a little while longer before a fight between Davis and Stevenson can be made official. ‘Tank’ Davis is reportedly on the verge of finalising a rematch again Lamont Roach Jr after their controversial first encounter at the beginning of March.
Stevenson is set to make his return to the ring against William Zepeda in a defence of his WBC title on July 12 in New York City.
