Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson has shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Last month it was reported that retired five-weight world champion ‘Money’ Mayweather is in the process of negotiating a second encounter with Filipino icon Pacquiao, over ten years on from their first meeting.
It isn’t the only fight Mayweather has been linked to, as it was announced back in September that former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson had reportedly agreed a deal to face Mayweather in an exhibition clash next year, although an official fight date and venue is yet to be announced.
Tyson, who is approaching his 60th birthday, made a sensational return to the sport in November 2024 when he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Jake Paul at the conclusion of their controversial eight round bout in Texas.
In an interview with Hardrock Bet, Tyson claimed that he ‘had no idea’ that Mayweather and Pacquiao were in negotiations for a rematch, before admitting that he believes the retired American superstar is ‘one of the greats’.
“I wish I could give you some input, but I have no idea what you’re talking about as far as those two guys fighting. He definitely reigns with the greats, there’s no doubt. He put in his work.”
Mayweather has not fought as a professional since he faced former UFC world champion Conor McGregor in his 50th and final career bout in August of 2017.
The 48-year-old from Michigan has been involved in a number of exhibition bouts since then however, although it remains to be seen whether the five-division champion will be tempted by the prospect of making a return to the sport against either ‘Iron Mike’ or Pacquiao in 2026.
