At one point in the history of boxing, Mike Tyson was unquestionably the most ferocious fighter on the planet.
The heavyweight great rose to fame a short while after he made his professional debut back in 1985, winning his first 19 bouts via stoppage with 12 of those wins coming inside the very first round.
His crowning moment came in 1986 when he made quick work of Trevor Berbick, knocking out the WBC world heavyweight champion in the second round of their bout to become the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.
Despite being such a dominant force within the heavyweight division during his formidable prime, Tyson once spoke out and revealed the one fighter that he believes would have gotten the better of him.
In an interview with ThisIs50, ‘Iron’ Mike claimed that Muhammad Ali would have defeated him during any stage of his career, even at his peak.
“There is no man like him, there just isn’t. Everything we have he supersedes us in. He was an animal, he looked more like a model than a boxer.
He’s like a Tyrannosaurus Rex with a pretty face, he’s just mean and evil, he’ll take you to deep waters and drown you. He’s very special. The best. Nobody beats Ali. I can’t beat that man, hell no. No way.”
In the eyes of many, Ali is undoubtedly the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves. He defeated an array of legendary heavyweights during his tenure, including Joe Frazier and ‘Big’ George Foreman, beating the latter in ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’, one of boxing’s most memorable contests of all time.
