An announcement for the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford appears to be nearing.

Canelo and Crawford are understood to have agreed a deal for a super-middleweight bout later this year, bringing together two of the best pound-for-pound stars in boxing right now.

Alvarez is the reigning WBC, WBA and WBO champion at 168lbs, while ‘Bud’ won the WBA super-welterweight title last August, in what was his first fight at 154lbs.

Despite many feeling that Crawford will be undersized in the bout, he will move up two further weight divisions for the clash against Canelo, which is expected to take place in September.

One man who seemingly agrees that ‘Bud’ will be too small is four-weight world champion Mikey Garcia, who told Fight Hub TV that he expects a victory for Alvarez.

“I’m not a fan of that fight. They are too many weight classes apart. Crawford is one of the best fighters I’ve seen, but Canelo is fighting at 168 and Crawford just moved up to 154 and had some trouble in that fight.

“I think Canelo wins that fight based on just the power and size. Skill wise I think Crawford is a better skilled fighter, but the difference in size will be the deciding factor. That’s why I’m not a fan of that fight.”

Garcia isn’t the only big name from the boxing world to offer his thoughts on the Canelo vs. Crawford fight, with former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder also giving a defiant prediction for the clash.
