British heavyweight star Moses Itauma has accepted that he would be given a tough night’s work against one British rival.
Itauma has emerged as one of the most exciting heavyweights in world boxing over the last 18-months, producing an exceptional performance against countryman Dillian Whyte in his last outing back in August.
The 21-year-old from Kent remains unbeaten in 13 bouts since he made his professional debut in January of 2023, racking up 11 stoppage victories along the way.
He is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the ring later this month when he locks horns with America’s Jermaine Franklin at the Coop Arena in Manchester on January 24.
In a recent feature with Sky Sports Boxing, Itauma acknowledged that veteran heavyweight Derek Chisora would give him his first real test in a surprising claim.
“I feel like he can [test me]. He’s obviously got something about him. They call him “War Chisora” man, no one’s ever gonna have an easy time against him so I can’t stay silent for him.”
Despite suffering 13 defeats during his professional career to date, Chisora has proved to be an incredibly tough opponent for a number of world class heavyweights along the way.
The 42-year-old from Finchley has shared the ring with the likes of David Haye, Joseph Parker, Vitali Klitschko and Tyson Fury during his storied career as he prepares to make his 50th and what could be his final ring appearance ever.
It has been suggested that Chisora could actually face former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder next, although it remains to be seen whether this intriguing heavyweight bout will come to fruition. He has previously admitted he would not be overly keen to face Itauma.
