Multi-weight world champion Shane Mosley made no mistake when revealing the greatest opponent of his professional boxing career.
‘Sugar Shane’ exploded onto the scene back in the early 2000s where he would wins over the likes of Fernando Vargas, Antonio Margarito and the legendary Oscar De La Hoya.
Mosley faced all-comers during his tenure and would go on to capture world honours at lightweight, welterweight and light-middleweight along the way.
The California-native suffered his fair share of defeats during his career however, falling short in bouts against Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez up until his retirement in August of 2017.
Another all-time-great that got the better of Mosley was five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, who outpointed ‘Sugar Shane’ when they crossed paths in May 2010.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Mosley spoke fondly of Mayweather as he claims his former rival was the best fighter that he ever shared a ring with.
“Best boxer would probably have to be Floyd. It’s how he evades punches with a blend of his defence and his offence. He’s always on his toes and he’s always slipping and sliding.”
“Best overall would have to be Floyd. He had everything. He had about three different categories where he was the best at. Floyd was the best overall fighter. The most speed, best defence and a good jab and good offence. I think that it’s also what he does with his movement and his angles.”
Mayweather is widely considered to be one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up a pair of gloves. The Michigan-native remained unbeaten for the duration of his career, defeating each of the 50 opponents that he crossed paths with.
