Shane Mosley has summed up former rival Floyd Mayweather‘s chances against the legendary ‘Four Kings’ of boxing.
‘The Four Kings’ was made up of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran, a legendary quartet of fighters that took the sport by storm during the 1980s.
Each of the four iconic fighters shared the ring with each other on at least one occasion during that golden era, producing a number of memorable bouts that are still talked about amongst the boxing community to this very day.
The debate on how exactly Mayweather would have fared against Leonard, Duran, Hagler and Hearns has been the topic of discussion between fans and analysts alike for many years, especially considering the outstanding ability and credentials of the five-weight world champion from Michigan.
Speaking on The Art Of Dialogue, Mosley, who fought Mayweather back in 2010, admitted that whilst he would give his former rival a good chance of defeating Duran and Hagler, he believes ‘Money’ would have fallen short to Leonard and Hearns.
“Now that you say that, now I’m thinking about Duran and the way he fights, yeah I can see it too, you’re right, but I can also see Duran getting inside and doing some stuff but Floyd weren’t gonna fight Duran like that.
“Floyd would have moved from Duran because Duran is coming at you, Floyd would have got away from Duran, but Tommy and Sugar … Leonard and Tommy Hearns, it would be a problem.
“If Mayweather was big enough could have beat Hagler … Duran maybe, it would have been a good fight, he would probably beat Duran but Sugar Ray and Tommy, nah.”
Five-weight world champion Mayweather remained unbeaten for the entire duration of his 21-year professional career, defeating each of the 50 opponents that he faced before his retirement in 2017, including the likes of Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao to name just a few.
