Shane Mosley Reveals The Hardest Puncher He Faced During His Career

Three-weight world champion Shane Mosley has revealed which of his 61 career opponents hit him the hardest.

‘Sugar Shane’ had an exceptional professional career which culminated in him capturing multiple versions of the world championship at lightweight, welterweight and super-welterweight.

Perhaps the bulk of Mosley’s success came during the late 1990s into the early 2000s where he produced wins over the likes of Jesse James Leija, Fernando Vargas, John John Molina and Oscar De La Hoya.

The California-native suffered his fair share of defeats however, falling short to a number of all-time-greats such as Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather towards the end of his career.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Mosley gave a surprising answer when asked to name the hardest puncher he has ever faced, despite coming up against the likes of Pacquiao, Canelo and Miguel Cotto, who are all known for their punching power.

“Vernon Forrest. I’m not sure why; maybe it was just natural. He just hit the hardest.”

Forrest had an impressive professional career of his own, winning world titles at welterweight and super-welterweight prior to his retirement from the sport in 2008.

‘The Viper’ got the better of Mosley on two occasions back in 2002, handing his countryman consecutive unanimous decision defeats to capture and defend the coveted WBC world welterweight title.

Forrest’s life was cut short in July of 2009 when he was tragically murdered just one year after announcing his retirement. He was just 38-years-old at the time of his harrowing death.
