A former multi-weight champion and Hall of Fame inductee is keen on a fight with Jake Paul.

Paul is one of the biggest names in boxing right now despite his relatively small accomplishments inside the squared circle. The American former YouTuber has done a superb job of self-promotion since getting involved in the sport only a few years ago.

Most of his fights have been against beatable opponents, former MMA stars and ageing, smaller foes including the likes of Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley.

The first time he fought an active recognised boxer was Tommy Fury, who beat him on points back in 2023. Most recently Paul took on former world heavyweight champion and legend of the sport, Mike Tyson.

Their eight-round bout in Texas in November was a one-sided affair in which 27-year-old Paul was able to land shots at will on the 58-year-old Tyson and take a straightforward points win.

Now, 55-year-old former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr has told Boxing Scene he is open to a fight with Paul if the opportunity arose, despite admitting that he is not in the same weight class.

“I am not really a full-fledged heavyweight, but I weigh probably what [Paul] weighs right now. It wouldn’t be hard to match his weight, I guess. They do catchweights, so I’m sure we could figure out the right weight.

“We can make it happen. The only thing different though is he will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out. I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me.”

He then assessed how he would go about the contest.

“It would be very difficult to pick him apart because he is so powerful and big. He has power and is a dangerous puncher. I would beat him, I’m sure, but you would have to be on your A-game all night, especially at my age.”

Jones last fought professionally in April 2023 when he lost to Anthony Pettis, an MMA fighter making his pro boxing debut. He also drew an exhibition with ‘Iron Mike’ in 2020.

In his prime, he is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time.
