Prince Naseem Hamed has been speaking about the career of Anthony Joshua.
Right now, the long time British favourite and former two-time heavyweight champion of the world is at something of a crossroads.
His last outing in September ended in a fight round knockout loss to the young and hungry new IBF champion Daniel Dubois. Before that, he had put together a string of four good wins, including three impressive knockouts of Robert Helenious, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.
They saw him rebuild after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, with the Ukrainian also going on to twice beat Tyson Fury in 2024.
With few better options, many expected that would mean the two Brits would finally come together in the ring for a much anticipated contest, however, Fury announced his retirement in January.
Speaking to iFL TV after the fight with Dubois, ‘Prince Naz’ was asked whether Joshua should continue in the sport.
“Listen, whether he can or he can’t, I prefer him not to, he’s had his day in the sun, he’s done great, he’s won amazing world titles, he’s defended them, he’s earned his dough. Listen he should bow out gracefully and that’s it done. When he gets hit on the chin I don’t want talk about that right now.
I like ‘AJ’, and I like Ben Davison even more, but the right man won tonight, the right man with the desire.”
Joshua has no such plans to hang up the gloves. He has been linked with a possible rematch with Dubois this summer, though Dubois is also keen on a another shot at Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight crown.
