Johnny Nelson has given his view on the upcoming fight between two British heavyweight stars, Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois.

Wardley is the man of the moment, having been elevated to WBO champion after his last fight. In 2025, he knocked out both Justis Huni and Joseph Parker, despite seeming to be behind on the scorecards going into the later rounds.

Though Wardley was disappointed not to get a shot at the then-champion Oleksandr Usyk, who instead vacated his belt, he now has a chance to stake his claim in the division with his first defence.

It comes against Dubois, who lost to Usyk last time out back in July 2025 but before that beat Anthony Joshua, Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller, all by KO, in what was a fantastic run.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Nelson was asked about the May 9 clash and said it was a pick ’em.

“I think that’s a lovely fight. I think it’s a fight, I need to think about that, but it’s a fight that could be anybody’s.”

He was then asked what impact it might have on Dubois that he is now back with his first long-time coach. ‘DDD’ briefly left Don Charles after his second loss to Usyk to go and train with Tony Sims, but recently reversed the decision.

“I think him returning to Don Charles, it’s kind and humble of Don Charles. And practical, he’s still got to get paid. I do believe if somebody leaves you once they can leave you again. I’d have been hurt and heartbroken if I were Don Charles, but this is business.”

Dubois will be hoping to get back to winning ways as one of the younger heavyweights in the division, though both he and Wardley have a KO ratio at 95%, so it will likely end inside the distance one way or another.
