Johnny Nelson is the latest to weigh in on Moses Itauma‘s chances against Oleksandr Usyk.

The 20-year-old heavyweight star is one of the fastest rising and most talked about talents in world boxing. He has had only 13 fights but has won them all and looked impressive in all of them, with 11 coming by way of KO, and nine inside the first two rounds.

Last time out, he blew former world title challenger Dillian Whyte away inside two minutes, and talk soon turned to him stepping up to take on the current two-time undisputed heavyweight king, Usyk.

Usyl last fought in July when he stopped Daniel Dubois for a second time to continue his unbeaten run, and while some like David Haye think Itauma is now ready for the challenger, others think he should take his time.

Speaking to ‘The Cobra’ on his Froch on Fighting channel, former cruiserweight world champion Nelson is one of those who has sounded caution over rushing Itauma too quickly.

“Why spoil a rising heavyweight that could dominate a division? I’m not saying he gets turned over by Usyk, cause we don’t know how good this kid is but what I’m saying is I just wouldn’t do it.”

Usyk has mandatory challengers to deal with, and Joseph Parker is the WBO interim champion who is patiently waiting his turn but will keep busy with a fight against Fabio Wardley in October. Usyk has been ordered to face the winner.
